Beaumont at Westborough recently received national recognition from the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) for commitment to quality in caring for their residents.
The 2020 Commitment to Quality Award, also known as the Bronze Award, honors long-term and post-acute care providers that have demonstrated their commitment to improving the quality of care for seniors and persons with disabilities.
According to the AHCA and NCAL website, the “Bronze Award level provides applicants with the tools and resources they need for continuous improvement in quality care.” Director of Nursing Services at Beaumont at Westborough, Nicole Murphy, RN, says that “receiving the award furthers our goal to always strive for excellence.”
The Bronze Award is prestigious—the criteria “is based on the Baldridge Excellence Framework” where applicants “assess their organization’s mission, vision, and key factors that lead to success,” explains the AHCA and NCAL website.
Organization leaders must address how to achieve long-term success, make sure staff members at every level understand overarching goals and can work together to reach them, fully understand and meet patients’ and others’ requirements and expectations, and ensure that operations are efficient and lead to positive outcomes.
The Baldridge Excellence Framework also explores how an organization is performing and meeting objectives in “seven critical areas:” leadership, strategy, customers, measurement analysis and knowledge management, workforce, operations, and results. “It is a lot of hard work,” says Murphy. “Consistently making sure all staff members are on the same page and contributing to high standards of care isn’t an easy thing to accomplish—I’m proud of our team and they were excited about the recognition.”
More importantly, the award “shows people in need of rehabilitation or long-term care that we provide the best quality of care possible,” explains Murphy.
