Changes set to enhance patient care
Beaumont at Worcester staff and management are pleased and excited about beginning major, $5.8 million renovations to their campus in January, with construction lasting through September of next year, pending Massachusetts Department of Public Health approval. The changes will enable Beaumont to devote more physical space to sub-acute rehabilitation services in response to the direction and demands of healthcare in coordination with partners in the Worcester medical community.
“We already have exceptional clinical and rehabilitation programs and staff,” says Beaumont Executive Director Ed Taglieri. “We’re looking forward to converting and expanding our space into a state-of-the-art campus so we can provide the best care possible.”
The entire rehabilitation space on the first floor, including the area previously occupied by SALMON Early Education Center, which will be used for rehabilitation gyms, will be renovated first. Additionally, renovations will include the creation of an official outdoor rehabilitation area, complete with modified walking surfaces, curbs and a car for practicing rehabilitative exercises (occupational therapy) in a “real life” environment.
The sub-acute neighborhoods on the fourth floor will be redone next. Five semi-private rooms will be converted into 10 private rooms. Flooring, walls and surfaces will be updated, beginning with construction and progressing to coverings.
Once the sub-acute neighborhoods and rehabilitation locations are completed, the carpeting and walls in the two long-term care neighborhoods, including the Tapestry Program for memory impaired Residents, will be updated. New windows will be installed throughout, and four kitchens will be added in order to provide a higher level of decentralized dining, allowing Residents greater variety in their menu choices and a community dining experience. We also will be enhancing our Tapestry Program with this renovation.
“We’re invested in making these extensive changes because we know that, in addition to having the best staff and programs, such building enhancements will help our customers return to their prior level of functioning faster, and stay at their highest level of independence,” Ed explains. “And that’s the goal we all share here.”
