State of the art enhancements to improve care
SALMON Health and Retirement proudly unveiled its extensive renovations to Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center on Thursday, March 23. During the event at the Plantation Street location in Worcester, SALMON representatives shared the rewarding project with guests and celebrated the opportunity to better serve the local community and propel Beaumont into the future of healthcare through new state-of-the-art equipment and services.
During the ceremony, SALMON representatives guided notable guests including State Rep. James O’Day (D-Worcester), State Rep. Daniel Donahue (D-Worcester), Betsy Hampton, vice president of population health at Reliant Medical Group, as well as Chris Duncan, Julie Davenport, Kevin Kozak and Garth Johnson from Cutler Associates on an exclusive tour of the advanced rehabilitation department and upgraded its equipment.
Physical therapy staff proudly demonstrated their AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill®, which helps clients recovering from injury improve strength and correct their gaits without their full body weight applying pressure to the injury. A video camera even allows the treadmill users to watch their own steps on a screen in front of them, so they can perfect their form as they move.
Other features include NeuroGym® Technologies Sit-to-Stand Trainer and Bungee Mobility Trainer, Chattanooga™ Modality Program and Kinetic Ergonomic Trainer.
With this equipment, physical therapists are using evidence-based practice to more effectively train residents and patients to improve strength and range of motion, to propel them towards a quicker path to recovery and an independent lifestyle.
Clients can also utilize an outdoor training area including a training car, mailbox, benches and sample ground surfaces to gain confidence in completing outdoor tasks.
With the guidance of Cutler Associates as well as other local contractors, the 11-month, $6 million renovation project began in early 2016 after SALMON received a Determination of Need (DoN) from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Crews transformed all dining locations and common areas; the lobby; conference rooms and resident rooms (adding many private rooms with showers); along with expanding the space for rehabilitation services and creating the outdoor area.
The location is among the most comprehensive rehabilitation centers in Central Massachusetts, featuring innovative equipment and a highly trained, experienced staff.
Throughout the construction in 2016, the campus was fully operational and maintained its “5 Star” status as rated by CMS (the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, as well as its high ranking in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Nursing Homes in the country.
Since SALMON Health and Retirement opened the 159-bed skilled nursing center in 2008, Beaumont at Worcester has become the top discharge destination for the UMass ACO (Accountable Care Organization) and has forged strategic alliances with Reliant Medical Group and Saint Vincent Hospital.
The SALMON organization is thrilled with the outcome of the project for enhancing care, and is thankful to have the opportunity to share it with the community.
