Milford, Mass. — SALMON Health and Retirement today announced the formation of the Salmon Family Owners Board, an important step in the continued evolution of the family’s ownership governance as the business moves into the third generation of leadership.

The Salmon Family Owners Board was established to support the long-term stewardship of the family’s shared enterprise by creating a forum for family owners to discuss matters related to ownership, governance, succession, and long-term planning.  Distinct from the company’s management team, the board exists to strengthen family ownership while supporting the continued success of the business for future generations.

The Salmon family is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas E. Singer and Jane P. Newton as the inaugural independent members of the Salmon Family Owners Board.

Singer brings extensive experience in governance, estate planning, closely held businesses, board leadership and organizational strategy. Newton brings decades of experience advising business owners, multi-generation families, and corporate boards on strategic planning, leadership transitions, governance, and long-term stewardship. Together, they provide independent perspectives, broad business experience and thoughtful judgment that will strengthen the work of the Family Owners Board.

“Our leadership team is responsible for running SALMON, while the Salmon Family Owners Board is focused on something equally important: helping our family become stronger stewards of the business for generations to come,” said Andrew Salmon, chair of the Salmon Family Owners Board. “This board is about helping our family continue to become better stewards and better owners. It gives us a place to challenge each other’s thinking, stay aligned on the decisions that matter most, and continue learning together. If we do that well, we give this company the best opportunity to thrive for the next 75 years.”

The independent members of the Salmon Family Owners Board serve as experienced governance colleagues and thought partners to the family. Their role is to contribute independent judgment, broad business experience, and objective perspective to discussions involving ownership and long-term stewardship. They do not serve as the family’s legal, tax, investment, accounting, or other retained professional advisors, nor do they replace the family’s existing professional advisors. Management of SALMON Health & Retirement remains the responsibility of the company’s executive leadership team.

The formation of the Salmon Family Owners Board underscores the family’s commitment to thoughtful ownership, strong governance and preserving the values that have guided SALMON since its founding in 1952. By investing in family governance today, the Salmon family is helping position the organization to continue serving residents, families, employees and the communities it serves for generations to come.
