Celebrating Assisted Living Week at Whitney Place: “Inspiring Generations

Posted by SALMON Health on September 11, 2024

At SALMON Health and Retirement, we are excited to celebrate National Assisted Living Week, a time to reflect on the deep bonds and rich experiences shared within our Whitney Place communities. Our Whitney Place campuses, located in Medway, Natick, Northborough, and Westborough, represent the heart of SALMON’s assisted living neighborhoods. These communities are not only where residents receive personalized care, but also where deep connections flourish between staff, residents, and their families. Each Whitney Place location is also home to Tapestry, our specialized memory care program, designed to offer compassionate, expert care to those living with memory loss.

In each of our Whitney Place communities, residents are welcomed into an environment that values respect and belonging. This year’s National Assisted Living Week theme, “Inspiring Generations,” reflects the intergenerational relationships that thrive within our campuses, where staff and residents learn from one another’s diverse life experiences. Whitney Place is more than just a place to live—it’s a vibrant, supportive community where the past, present, and future are woven together in daily life.

As we come together to honor the remarkable individuals who call Whitney Place home, we are reminded of the inspiration that flows through our halls each day. Our dedicated staff members have shared what inspires them most about being part of these extraordinary communities, and their words serve as a testament to the joy, connection, and sense of purpose that define life at Whitney Place.

This year’s theme, “Inspiring Generations,” highlights the connections between staff, residents, and families that make our assisted living campuses so special. As we come together to honor the remarkable individuals who call Whitney Place home, we are reminded of the warmth, care, and inspiration that flourish here every day. Our staff has taken the time to share what inspires them most about being part of these extraordinary communities.

One of the greatest joys of working at Whitney Place is the opportunity to form meaningful connections with residents. Their stories, their smiles, and their zest for life inspire us to bring our best selves to work every day. Christine Giguire, Director of Resident Engagement, expresses it best: “I’m inspired every day I come to work. I have this wonderful feeling; my heart smiles and I am just very blessed that I’ve been able to do this for a very long time.” This sense of purpose and joy radiates throughout our communities and fuels our commitment to creating a vibrant, supportive environment for all.

In the heart of Whitney Place, there is a deep sense of mutual care and kindness that makes it feel like home. For many of our staff, the residents are like family. George Asinyo, Resident Engagement Assistant, reflects on this with warmth: “They always make me smile. I’m happy I can brighten their day, and they do the same for me as well. They feel like family.” It is this shared sense of belonging and joy that creates such a strong bond between our team and the residents we care for.

What makes our communities truly special is the diverse experiences, perspectives, and histories our residents bring with them. Each person has a unique story that enriches our collective understanding of life. Wade Killman, Bartender at Whitney Place is deeply inspired by this, saying, “I’m very inspired by lots of the residents here. And I think one thing that comes to mind is that they’ve all lived previous lives. They’re all coming from different pasts—different parts of the country, jobs, families, or whatever it may be—and we get to be a part of that.” These rich life experiences shape our communities and offer a wellspring of wisdom and inspiration.

At Whitney Place, every day is a new opportunity to learn, grow, and connect. As Recreation Coordinator Maggie Tompkins shares, “They’ve lived so much life. It’s incredible to really get to know all of them. You always learn something new every day—it’s amazing.” This exchange of stories and insights is at the heart of what makes our assisted living communities so unique and meaningful.

As we conclude our celebration of National Assisted Living Week, we are reminded of the incredible power of “Inspiring Generations.” The residents of Whitney Place have so much to offer, and it is our privilege to care for them and learn from them. This week, and every week, we honor the connections that enrich our lives and create a community where inspiration flows freely across generations.
