Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester has discharged its 500th patient since actively providing COVID-19 care, treatment and recovery services since April of 2020.
Through December 19, 2020, Beaumont has admitted 585 total patients, 405 of those were COVID-19-positive. Beaumont operated as a COVID center under the direction of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services until July 15th.
Since then, Beaumont has welcomed back original residents who resided in the community prior to the pandemic. Beaumont continues to maintain a small COVID isolation space to take patients from other SALMON Health and Retirement communities. As capacity allows, the isolation space also continues to serve COVID-positive seniors from surrounding towns who reside in their own homes and in other senior living spaces.
Area providers have taken advantage of the isolation space in Beaumont, reducing the risk of transmission in their own facilities. Once recovered, patients are welcomed back to their own room or apartment, without significantly disrupting the residents and staff.
Executive Director of Beaumont at Worcester, Shawn Neville, says “It’s been a privilege to be able to discharge 500 healthy patients back to their homes and reunite with their families and friends. It has been an incredibly tough year but seeing their faces as they head home makes it all worth it.”
